Abstract

Human body words seem simple, but they are actually complicated. People often generalize and describe other things by analogy with their own cognition. Although human cognition is universal, different cultural backgrounds will affect people's cognition, so that we will have different associations and concepts when expressing certain words. According to the 7th edition of the Modern Chinese Dictionary (现代汉语词典), the author reviewed 13 definitions of "head" and 7 definitions of "eye", but only the first meaning really represents human organs, and the other meanings follow certain rules and metaphors. This paper analyzes the words "head" and "eye" of the two body words in Chinese and Indonesian language, and explains their extended meanings and metaphors from the Chinese body words "head" and "eye".
