Abstract

Financial inclusion, which is the provision of financial services for the community, is considered important to increase economic growth. To date empirical studies done and reviewed studies reveal different results about the effect of financial inclusion on banking financial performance. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of financial inclusion on return on assets of Islamic Commercial Banks and to find out how banking stability as a mediation affects of financial inclusion on return on assets of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia. Financial inclusion is measured using the Index Financial Inclusion. Banking stability is measured by Z-score. The Islamic Commercial Banks studied consisted of 12 banks registered with the Financial Services Authority for the period 2017-2021. The results concluded that financial inclusion had no effect on the return on assets of Islamic Commercial Banks. In addition, banking stability also does not mediate the relationship between financial inclusion and return on assets of Islamic Commercial Banks. From the results of this study, it is hoped that the government could play an active role in increasing financial inclusion so that people could achieve falah in accordance with sharia principles.
