Abstract

Petri net is on of models commonly used for automation and manufacture. This paper reports the use of petri net in modeling automated distillation process of ethanol, using PLC as main controller. The model encompassed hardware and software parts of the prototype built. The control system was aimed to keep the system at ethanol’s boiling point of 80ºC, while maintaining the hardware’s safety especially the heater. Free style petri net was used, then implemented on PLC. The resulting prototype has performed consistent performance of automatic distillation, producing 80% ethanol out of 40% ethanol.
