Abstract

The role of Mx gene that influence the mechanisms of resistance to certain viruses have been widely studied in a variety of vertebrates. Some researchers have proved the existence of gen Mx in animals infected with the AI viruses subtype H5N1 such as chickens and ducks. This gene is activated in the event of an infection AI virus. The chicken Mx gene was located on a chromosome 1 in 20.767 bp, consisting of 13 exon. Resistance Mx genes against the AI virus found in exon 13 that have single mutation. In wild waterbirds there is no information about mechanism of Mx gene. This research aims to analyze the polymorphism of Mx gene on wild waterbirds. The methods used in this research was PCR-RFLP with universal primer pair of F2 and NE-NE-R2/R, and followed by restriction using enzyme Rsal. The result showed that the Mx genes was detected on 8 wild waterbirds that lived in the Pulau Dua Nature Reserve (CAPD), there were no Mx gene polymorphism in wildwaterbirds. This proves that the existence of Mx genes on wild waterbirds in influencing mechanism of resistance to exposure AI viruses subtype H5N1 were different with chicken Mx gene.
