Abstract

National energy crisis is an unsolved problem in Indonesia. All electronic equipment requires electricity to support all human activities. Blackout often done by PT. PLN in queue in order to save the power due to energy crisis and few power plant in Aceh. Blackout caused damaged to major electronic devices. Therefore many institutions get losses caused by these blackout. So to overcome this problem, early warning system is needed to find out where the location of blackout has happened. PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) is a telecommunications device that is often used, because it is easy and cheap. PSTNs are integrated in a central telephone and distributed through the DLC (Digital Loop Carier) device. In this final project the author in cooperation with PT. Telkom Kandatel NAD create a device to monitor electric power and battery power on the DLC device at the STO (Sentral Telepon Otomatis) Telkom. EWS4D (Early Warning System for DLC) is a device that will be created to monitor electric power PLN, battery power, measuring temperature devices, anti-burglar alarm and includes LCD display aimed to showing indicators on the monitor that will be sent via SMS. Devices that will be created using ATMega8535 microcontroller to process data information from sensor that will provide early warning alerts and SIM300 GSM module as device sending an SMS to a PIC (Personal In Charge). This final project includes making the hardware, communications procedures between the two devices and the implementation. The results show that The EWS4D made in this project work properly and effectively. The final project also analyze GSM network performance in various conditions such as differences in terms of access time, GSM operators and the difference in distance access to The EWS4D device.
