Abstract

Wireless communications have progressed rapidly and multiband antenna have become very important component for wireless applications. Many antennas have been designed for wireless local area network (WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX). The antennas should be integrated in handheld devices or mobile devices (i.e. mobile phone or laptop). Therefore antenna with small dimensions (compact in size), light weight, planar structure, and easy fabrication is needed to be integrated in these devices. In this final project, we present the design of CPW-fed triple band antenna receiver for WLAN/WiMAX applications and gain optimization of the antenna. The proposed receiver antennas have been implemented using PCB substrate and operates at WLAN/ WiMAX band, 2.3 GHz (2.3-2.4 GHz), 3.3 GHZ (3.3-3.4 GHz), and 5.8 GHz (5.725-5.85 GHz). The value of VSWR<2 at those frequencies have been achieved for each of the proposed antenna. The optimization results have shown gain improvements of around 2-3 dB. The radiation pattern shows the characteristic of a planar omni-directional antenna.
