Abstract

This study aims to see how an event host in a political talk show, using a brinkmanship strategy to make the event alive, interesting, and to get a high rating. Ayish (2005) describes media brinkmanship as the ways in which host political talkshow programs encourage informants into the abyss of conflict by the steps such as institagting, censoring, or silencing the situation to heat up. Using the multimodal analysis of Kress & Van Leewuen, this study presented the style of the Indonesian Lawyer Club (ILC) host, Karni Ilyas in the episode Menjelang Debat Presiden 2019: Penegakan Hukum di Mata 01 & 02. The results showed that audio visual resources at this show show that event hosts tend to play a brinkmanship strategy at least in part of its concept.
