Abstract
Berakhirnya Perang Dingin di era awal 1990-an mendorong negara-negara republik dan daerah otonomi lokal untuk menuntut kemerdekaan dari negara federasinya. Contohnya Slovenia dan Kroasia yang mendeklarasikan kemerdekaannya dari Federasi Yugoslavia, yang kemudian mendorong negara republik lain seperti Bosnia-Herzegovina untuk mengadakan referendum. Kemudian terjadilah perang etnis antara Serbia dan Bosnia.
